Firefox extensions - two more for you to enjoy

I forgot to mention these two gems in my earlier post on Firefox extentions....

ONE Google preview This extension is for 'visual' people. It adds pictures of the webpages you're searching next to search results after you've Googled something. Very good if you remember what the webpage looked like, but can't remember the exact name. Try it. It makes Google 'visual'. (click here)

And... TWO Resize searchbox. This Firefox extension gives you an easy way to make your Firefox search box bigger (or smaller) by giving it a drag-able thingy. It's very useful. (click here)

If you don't know what Firefox is yet, then click this button....

Firefox extensions list

Here's a list of the extensions that I recommend in Firefox. This took a while and is a work of love... In no particular order (just good)

stumbleupon to use Stumbleupon in your Firefox browser. And if you don't know stumbleupon click me

Image Zoom you can use this to zoom in or out of any image by holding your right or left click while using your scroll wheel. Nice.

Autohide If you want to maximise your view of web pages get this extension. It's great with 'compact menu' (see below), because it allows you to 'full screen' and keep your most useful tooolbars. Play around with it to get your best setting. Works best with the default Firefox theme (which is the best anyway).

Autohide is truly brilliant, but you'll need to do a bit of messing around. Email me if you need help with this one. You'll love it once you know how it works.

Download status bar This one shows what you are downloading at the bottom of your browser screen in the 'status bar'. You can delete the files you've downloaded by 'right clicking' the bar and following instructions. There's more to it than that. Just use it. It's damn useful.

Compactmenu This allows you to remove 'file', 'edit', 'view' & 'go' from your menu bar. Just right click on your menus at the top of your browser and you'll see a pop up with boxes to un-tick. Good if you don't use these functions. It frees up space in your browser.

Tabbrowser preferences Just good to control your tab browsing. Play around with the settings until you find the setting that suits you best.

Bookmarks synchronizer (you'll need to get your own website - try Lycos)

Fire ftp (only if you have a website)

Copy URL
Use this extension to copy URLs with the page title. This is particularly useful if you need to quote something on a webpage (it copies the URL with anything you highlight).

If you don't know what Firefox is yet, then click this button....

Robin Williams - not Robbie Williams

In a week this'll be mashed up all over the internet like a cheap (copyright law) suit.

Sing the blues, yeah! Robin Williams (who I doubt) sings the blues (very well) about Disney selling Pixar. I doubt him less now. It's worth remixing, cos it's the blues, yeah! Robin Williams Sings Pixar's Freedom (click me)

When I get a moment... I'll do it! Beat me to it!

Cure for the only bug I've met in Firefox

Firefox is the best. But there is a chance that you'll meet it's only bug. Here's the cure. The only bug (click me)

You'll only need this if Firefox tells you that 'this profile is in use' and you can't launch Firefox. No problem. Just Ctrl/Alt/Del then delete the only Firefox program running in your task manager. Firefox will launch perfectly. It happens when some stupid site launches a hidden browser. Don't panic. It's nothing serious. It's happened to me a couple of times.

speed up firefox

This is for sports enthusiasts only.

You won't really need to, but if you have broadband, then you might want to make Firefox even faster (than the internet). Here's how (techie level - intermediate). speed up firefox (click me)

Band fonts

Portable Firefox

Carry your favourite browser in your pocket. This is a link to Portable Firefox - Firefox that can be run from a USB thumb drive. It's a stunning piece of webby goodness. No more Internet Explorer from work, just plug this baby into your USB and browse like you're at home. Portable Firefox 1.0 (USB Drive-Friendly) :: Mozilla Stuff :: JohnHaller.com (click me)

John's instructions on this page are excellent. Just follow them. He tells you that need to install Macromedia Flash Player drivers for it to play Flash websites (this is not the same as a Flash drive which is another word for a USB drive). Just follow his instructions. He's pretty clear.

I can highly recommend the 'bookmarks synchronizer extension' which he mentions under Additional Options. (You'll need a website address for this so get yourself a Lycos free site). It allows you to have the same bookmarks at home and on your portable Firefox. Word of warning: you'll have to delete anything that's nsfw if you use your portable at work.

Happy browsing.

Losing yourself in online gaming

I don't play online games (thank god). According to this BBC article, they're very addictive... hmm. I'm addicted t GTA San Andreas at the moment. I couldn't handle any more than that. Losing yourself in online gaming (click me)
